Do you know the Production method and use of Potassium Iodide?

Mar. 06, 2020

As a Potassium Iodide Factory, share with you. Potassium iodide is a colorless or white cubic crystal, odorless, and has a strong salty taste. Soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, methanol, acetone, glycerin and liquid ammonia, slightly soluble in ether. Its aqueous solution is neutral or slightly alkaline. It has a wide range of functions in medicine. It is often used to make diuretics and expectorants, and it is an auxiliary reagent configured with iodine standard solution.

Potassium Iodide production method

At present, potassium iodide is mostly produced by formic acid reduction in China. That is, the role of iodine and potassium hydroxide to generate potassium iodide and potassium iodate, and then use formic acid or charcoal to reduce potassium iodate. However, in this method, iodate is formed, and the product is not suitable as a food additive. Food grade potassium iodide can be produced by iron filings.

The iron filing method uses iodine and iron filings as raw materials. One part of iron filings was placed in the reactor, 7 parts of water were added, and 3.3 parts of iodine were added in batches at 65 ~ CT. After adding iodine tablets, the solution was dark reddish brown. After the solution was light green, a second batch of iodine tablets could be added. The iron filings were then filtered off to obtain a ferrous iodide solution. This solution was added to a 10: 3 (mass) potassium carbonate aqueous solution to produce a ferric carbonate precipitate and a potassium iodide solution. The solution was left to stand. After clarification, the supernatant was precipitated, heated and concentrated to a relative density of 1.75 to 1.81, and then filtered; when the filtrate continued to evaporate to a relative density of 1.93 to 1.98, it was filtered while hot. After cooling to 60-70 ° C, the crystals were allowed to stand and crystallize. After separation, the product was dried at 70-90 ° C to obtain an anhydrous potassium iodide product. Zh

Uses of potassium iodide

1.Used as expectorant and diuretic in medicine

Potassium iodide is often used as a corrosion inhibitor for steel pickling or other synergists. Potassium iodide is the raw material for preparing iodides and dyes. It is used as a photographic emulsion, food additive, as an expectorant, diuretic in medicine, as a medicine for the prevention and treatment of goiter and hyperthyroidism, and as an analytical reagent. It is used as a photo emulsifier in the photography industry, and also used as a medicine and food additive.

2.Used in the pharmaceutical industry

Used as analytical reagents, such as the preparation of iodine standard solution as auxiliary reagents. It is also used as a photo emulsifier and feed additive. Used in the pharmaceutical industry.

3. Iodized edible salt

The so-called iodized salt we often eat is to add potassium iodide or potassium iodate to common table salt.

4. Potassium iodide has some special uses in the field of dermatology.

Its mechanism of action is due in part to enhanced lysis and digestion of necrotic tissue. Potassium iodide also has antifungal activity. It is used clinically to treat sporotrichosis, pigmented blastomycosis, persistent nodular erythema, and nodular vasculitis.

5.Used in medicine to prevent and treat endemic goiter

Promote the absorption of turbid vitreous and expectorant. It can also be used as analytical reagents, chromatographic analysis and point pain analysis.
